The Helios ring motivates you to consume vitamin D from the sun through notifications and this is the first device where you can actually see how much vitamin D you are consuming.
The sunlight coach provides personal sun protection so you’ll never get a sunburn again. It’s very important to select the right skin type so the notifications and measurements are accurate. The Helios app has a clothing menu and a sunscreen menu where these changes influences the measurements about sunlight and vitamin D consumption. The daylight coach motives the user to reach your minimum amount of daylight every day. For every coach there are notifications and statistics per day, week, month and year.

The daylight coach tracks how much daylight you receive on a day-to-day basis where you can see how long you have to be outside to reach the minimum amount of daylight. You have statistics for all the coaches per day, week, month and year. So at the end of the year you can see how much vitamin D you have consumed, how many hours you have spent safe or unsafe in the sun and how many days you have reached the minimum amount of daylight. You can draw conclusions that you spent to much time outside unsafe and you can adjust your lifestyle.
It’s very important to choose the right ring size. We provide 12 US sizes. When you go to the Shop page you can download the Helios ring size chart where you can determine what ring size you have. Still not sure? You can go to a local jewelry store and they can determine you ring size.
When you order a Helios ring in a wrong size, you can return it for another ring but we don’t provide the shipping costs.
Selecting your skin type is very important for accurate and personal measurements and notifications. When you got to the Shop page you can download the Fitzpatrick skin type test to determine your skin type.
When you select the wrong skin type, you get the wrong information about sun protection and vitamin D consumption. This causes wrong data about vitamin D consumption and sun protection. The vitamin D coach notifies and motivates you to consume vitamin D from the sun. When you step outside your house and in the sun you will receive a notification about vitamin D consumption. You can’t consume vitamin D when you use sunscreen. There are 6 different skin types and every skin type consumes vitamin D different. You consume vitamin D through your skin and with the clothing menu you can select the type of clothes that you wear for accurate vitamin D measurements. You can see every day how much vitamin D you consumed and how much vitamin D you consume per minute. You can see per day, week, month and year how much vitamin D you consumed in which period and in which period you consumed very little or nothing. This teaches you which months or places are the best for vitamin D consumption.
You can work on a yearly goal of 200.00 IU (International Units) and easily surpass that and consume a whole lot more! The Helios ring continuously tracks the strength of the sun, knows your skin type, knows the type of clothing that you wear and every change whether the strength of the sun becomes weaker or stronger, pollution that blocks UV radiation or a cloud that blocks the sun, the Helios ring knows and measures everything to give you an accurate as possible data about vitamin D consumption.
The turnover menu is for maximum vitamin D consumption. If you are in the sun (without sunscreen) then there is a certain amount of time (safe time) where you can safely consume vitamin D. This is different per skin type and depending on the strength of the sun. Every human being has a front and a back. When you are in the sun and the safe time is over, you either have to protect yourself (use sunscreen of avoid the sun) or you can select the turnover menu and turn around and double your vitamin D intake safely.
We based the consumption of vitamin D on the research of FNB (The Food and Nutrition Board) and they recommend a daily intake of 600 IU (International Units) per day and 219.000 IU of vitamin D per year. The FNB estimates that we need around 90% of the RDA (Recommended Daily Intake).
People older than 70 years need 800 IU per day and around 260.000 IU per year. “With each passing year, natural degenerative changes that occur in your skin make it harder for UV-B rays to convert cholesterol in your skin into vitamin D. It's a known fact that elderly people need to rely more on food sources than sunlight for their vitamin D. At 70 years of age, the average person has approximately 30% of the capacity to generate vitamin D from sunlight that a 20-year old has”
The Helios app yearly goals are set on 200.000 IU per year till the age of 70. People older than 70 years have a yearly goal of 260.000 units per year. With the Helios ring you can easily surpass that yearly goal. When you surpass the yearly goal you can still consume more vitamin D.
Vitamin D is also known as the ‘sunshine’ vitamin. You receive 90% of your vitamin D intake from the sun. There are 6 skin types and every skin type has a different outcome considering sun protection and vitamin D consumption.
You can’t consume vitamin D when you use sunscreen! For every skin type there is an amount of time where you can stay in the sun safely and consume vitamin D before you use sunscreen. The Helios ring continuously tracks the strength of the sun and based on the latest medical research the Helios ring calculates your vitamin D intake. You consume vitamin D through your skin and the clothing that you wear has an impact on your vitamin D intake. With the clothing menu you can easily select the type of clothing that you wear and that changes the amount of vitamin D consumption.
For accurate vitamin D consumption the Helios ring considers the strength of the sun that changes constantly, your skin type, the amount of clothing that you wear and anything that has an impact on the strength of the sun (clouds, pollution).
